A Simple Guide To Eisenmenger Syndrome, The Diagnosis, Treatment And Related Diseases (A Simple Guide To Medical Conditions)
Eisenmenger's syndrome (tardive cyanosis) is defined as the process in which a left to right shunt caused by a ventricular septal defect in the fetal heart results in an increased flow through the pulmonary vasculature causing pulmonary hypertension. This in turn results in increased pressures in the right side of the heart and reversal of the shunt into a right-to-left shunt. What is the Cause of E...

senmenger syndrome?Eisenmenger syndrome is a congenital heart condition that results from abnormal blood circulation caused by an abnormal septal defect in the heart.Frequently people with this condition are born with a hole in the wall between the two pumping chambers (the left and right ventricles) of the heart (ventricular septal defect). This hole allows blood that has already absorbed oxygen from the lungs to flow back into the lungs, instead of going out to the rest of the body.Other abnormal heart conditions that can lead to Eisenmenger syndrome include:1. Atrioventricular canal defect2. Atrial septal defect3. Cyanotic heart disease4. Patent ductus arteriosus5. Truncus arteriosusThe increased blood flow will in the long term damage the small blood vessels in the lungs. This results in high blood pressure in the lungs. The blood is forced backwards and does not go to the lungs to pick up oxygen. The blood flows from the right side to the left side of the heart allowing low oxygen blood to travel to the rest of the body.Eisenmenger syndrome may start to occur before a child reaches puberty. It also can occur in young adulthood, and may go on throughout young adulthood. What are the symptoms of Eisenmenger Syndrome?Symptoms1. Bluish fingers, toes, lips and skin (cyanosis)2. Chest pain3. Spitting up blood4. Giddiness5. Fainting6. Fatigue7. Breathlessness8. Stroke9. Swelling in the joints caused by too much uric acid (gout)How is the diagnosis of Eisenmenger Syndrome made?During the examination of the sick child, the doctor may find:1. Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia)2. Clubbing (enlarged ends of the fingers or toes)3. Heart murmur (an extra sound when listening to the heart)Eisenmenger syndrome can be diagnosed by doing further tests:1. Full blood count (FBC)2. Chest x-ray3. MRI scan of the heart4. Cardiac catheterization (putting a thin tube in an artery to view the heart and blood vessels and measure pressures)5. Electrocardiogram ECG (test of the electrical activity in the heart)6. Echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart)TABLE OF CONTENTIntroductionChapter 1 Eisenmenger SyndromeChapter 2 CausesChapter 3 SymptomsChapter 4 DiagnosisChapter 5 TreatmentChapter 6 PrognosisChapter 7 Ventricular Septal DefectChapter 8 Congenital Heart Diseases
