I bought this book for my wife and she really enjoyed it. If you are new to this and wondering how to get started, this guide certainly comes to your rescue. The main plot involves a fairly "sophisticated (educated) group" of 'preppers' who form a survivalist community in the NW California, and are attempting to 'prematurely' speed up the "coming" world apocalypse through their own effort and doing. The books just uses stats over and over to make conflicting points.
