me very quiet. Joanna wondered if it was just that he had no one to impress. He glanced at her. There was no grin on his face this time. `Oh me, now he's going to get serious. Got to stop playing these games it's not going to turn out good if he gets hurt or me!' She hadn’t meant to hurt him. She had enough just trying to deal with Billy. Eddie backed the car into a parking place at the boat ramp and turned off the engine. He didn’t make a move at first then turned and faced her. He didn't say a word nor did he move.Joanna opened the car door and hit the ground running up the levee to the lake. She didn’t stop to see where he was or if he was following. She didn’t stop till she reached the top and took in all the beautiful colors of the vast lake and a clear view of the glorious sunset in progress. It took her breath away. Still in awe Joanna sat down on the ground, speechless. The wind blowing off the lake was biting cold and the jacket she had brought wasn’t near enough to keep her warm. But the sky was so beautiful changing colors as the sun began setting lower over the horizon she didn’t feel the cold at all even though she was shaking. Pinks, oranges, blues and violets were moving into different patterns that would soon disappear and be only a memory. Joanna felt happy and renewed by this awesome sky.Time passed so quickly she started to weep not wanting this dream like picture to disappear. The small clouds looked like steps to heaven, she thought. Sitting there for a minute or two she looked around for Eddie. He had turned the other way and was walking in the direction of the sun.`Who is this man?' She wasn’t sure of anything anymore. `What makes him tick?' She knew he was different. Which is he a court jester, a ladies' man, a Texan, a businessman, a friend?’ Joanna began to think she may have misjudged Eddie.‘Could he possibly be a loving, caring person? He was framed in the sunset standing far off staring out to sea. She thought she was seeing a picture of this man framed in mystery and deep in thought.Pulling her jacket up around her shoulders she tried to snuggle deep into the furry collar but the biting cold brought her back to the world as she knew it for now. She wasn’t thinking happy thoughts now. She was just cold. Then as she muttered to herself she felt Eddie place his jacket over her shoulders. He knelt down behind her and pulled her against himself to keep her warm. He pecked her on the neck without a word. Joanna could smell his scent mingled with the mist from the lake splashing huge waves over the shore and mixed the smell of him with salty air. Joanna thought, ‘this is so nice. I so longed for someone to think of me this way.’Not feeling the need to be defensive she allowed him to hold her against his chest until the sun went down. It seemed as if they had seen the most beautiful movie had just been played. There was no need for dialog. When the sky turned dark and the first star began to twinkle in the sky he bent over and kissed the top of her head. The feeling she had was one that you can only feel once in a lifetime. There was no need for words. Two people had just witnessed the hand of God.
